Entertainer Kamahl charged with stalking woman

NCA NewsWireNCA NewsWire

Australian entertainer Kamahl has been charged with stalking a much younger woman after he agreed to loan her money.

It is alleged the 89-year-old threatened the 38-year-old woman after she invited him over for dinner in May last year to ask for money for her business.

He deposited $2000 the next day but their relationship soured months later, according to 9 News.

She agreed to pay him back in $5 weekly instalments, but the first transaction had the description “to the molester”.

Kamahl said the false accusation — which he has not been charged over — made him lash out.

“I just wanted you to know that your behaviour is unacceptable and you’re lucky I haven’t gone to the authorities,” he texted her.

“You are a liar, and a failure, and most of all an ungrateful *****!

“The best is yet to come!”

Kamahl said he had stopped taking his medication at the time and was “responding to a situation without all of my faculties”.

“I’m an 89-year-old man and I reacted in the spur of the moment,” he said.

Kamahl has been charged with stalking with intent to cause fear.

The woman has also applied for an apprehended violence order against him.

Kamahl will face court next month but he said he was not worried.

“Any publicity is better than no publicity … I’m sure of that,” he laughed.
